About Lisa Driscoll
Welsh artist of Irish descent she has always had a fascination with sculpture and stone work.
Lisa Driscoll is a Welsh artist of Irish descent, living and working in Wales. She has always had a fascination with sculpture and stone work, aspiring to the work of Modigliani and Hepworth. This deep-rooted passion led her into a stone carving apprentice in the late 1980’s under the watchful eye of a Welsh stonemason who passed on this ancient craft whom he had learnt form his own father. She was involved in her first exhibition the following year and has been selling work ever since. She applies a high level of technical skill and finish to all her work, this is an important part of the piece itself. Each piece is original, and hand carved using the method known as “direct carving”. The quality of form, light and shadow are all important, it is only when the piece is almost finished that its sensuality is revealed, and the stone reveals its secrets and shell forms, veins and color all fossilized within the substance of time.
Using stone as a medium means the artwork will last for many generations to come.
In 2003, she gained a BA Hon in Ceramics.
Her work can be found in private collections in Australia, Spain, Austria, Germany, England and Wales.
