01 — Biography

A life
in art.

Laura Parker is a fine artist native to Atlanta, Georgia, and now living in the north Georgia mountains in the USA, as a contemporary mixed media fine artist working with a wide variety of materials. She creates abstract constructions on paper, canvas, wood, and glass.

Laura began her arts journey in childhood as a student of music, later evolving into live performance, songwriting/composing, and studio recording. Her constant desire to push and explore rhythmic expression led her to begin work as a 2-D fine artist in 2000. It was then she became a student of painting and drawing, studying under master artists in a non-traditional setting out of Atlanta, Georgia. In 2008 she relocated to Charlottesville, Virginia, where she was juried into the renowned McGuffey Center for the Arts as a resident artist.

Her residencies include the Vermont Studio Center in 2009 and Proyecto’ace, Artist-in-Residence International Program in Argentina, 2016. She founded Abstract Road in 2018, which transformed her contemporary mixed media designs into hand knotted rugs, in partnership with Ujwal Carpets out of Nepal. Her rugs were introduced with Atlanta’s modern design showroom Switch Modern, (Atlanta/Manhattan). She continues to create contemporary mixed media pieces and transforms these designs into contemporary rug designs made of hand-dyed wool and silk. Laura has shown in galleries throughout the Southeast and has expanded private collections, internationally.

02 — Artist statement

In her own words.

My work explores the universal language of cultural symbols through nature’s patterns, seeking to bridge the ancient relationship between art, earth, and the human spirit. I am drawn to authentic iconic forms from around the world, believing these symbols reveal our shared desire to find meaning through creative expression. Through my practice, I search for genuine artistic truth, allowing nature’s rhythms and cross-cultural imagery to guide my process. In this convergence of nature, culture, and personal truth, art becomes the bridge between human consciousness and the natural world.
